The other day I got Malia dressed as usual and went about my business. As I moved from room to room, folding this and cleaning that I became aware of Malia following me around. Looking at her it just struck me what a beautiful little girl she is. Her hair was in a bun like it is most days as she has some long strangly bits which I can't quite bring myself to cut off (she hasn't had her first hair cut yet) and it was half falling out, but all of this just seemed to add to her beauty.
When I asked if I could take some photos of her she was more than happy to oblige. She's become quite the little poser, having been her dad's test subject many a time in her short life. I just thought she was looking extra special gorgeous and wanted to make sure I captured it. All too soon she will grow out of those clothes and pack them away, grow her hair, want to wear make up, go out and just grow up. I'm in no hurry for any of that and plan to make the most of her cute self while she's still just mine to adore.
While I was taking the photos I said to her, "You are so pretty"."God make me pretty" was her simple reply.
Boy did He ever. With good doses of cheeky and just a dash of humility thrown in, seeing as her usual response to someone telling her she looks cute or pretty is "Yes, I know".
Jonathan has tried to explain to her that the usual response is to say "Thank you", which may be true, but this new response "God make me pretty" is better still. If only we could all just love ourselves the way we were created without feeling the constant pressure to add to, or worse take away from what God gave us.
We can learn some of the simplest, yet most important lessons from our dear children. What an incredible blessing our girls are to us. The give us so much just by being them. I truly thank God for giving them to us.
