Today is a very special day in my life. Zoe said "Ma Ma" for the first time. I thought I heard it yesterday, but today she has been saying it pretty much non stop during her waking hours. She has been saying "Da Da" and "Ba Ba" for a few months now and I kinda got used to her being a baby of few words so it is so nice to hear her add this word to her vocabulary. Even as I type this she is lying in her playpen, legs entangled in the bars, looking at me saying "Ma Ma Ma". Hmmmmmm, maybe she needs my help with something. I better go help her! Or, in true blogger style I could just go and take a photo of her instead (and then help her of course).Note: No Zoe's were harmed during the making of this blog post.
About 2 months ago we bought Zoe a beautiful new highchair. I spent a lot of time selecting just the right one. I wanted it to be wooden so that the sensitive skin on her back and legs would not be irritated by vinyl or plastics, but I also didn't want it to cost a fortune. I finally found one that fell into the 'magic midrange' (magic in terms of quality and value). This is a phrase Jonathan use's all the time and considers products that fall into this range to be the best you can get as they are not so outlandishly expensive that no one can really afford it or so cheap that the quality suffers.
Until we got the chair we had been feeding Zoe in a fabric rocker her great Aunty Julie bought her when she was just a few months old. Each feed it would get even more dirty and disgusting so I was thrilled when we got the call from the shop to say our chair had arrived. We went straight out to pick it up, brought it home, set it up and admired how well it matched with the rest of the furniture, but then. disaster! Zoe couldn't sit in it! She kept sliding to the side and knocking her head, which soon brought with it much crying and screaming. I was so disappointed. After all the trouble we went through to get the 'perfect' chair and she couldn't even use it. So it was back to feeding in the rocker for another 2 months while Zoe spent a little more time learning how to sit up and stay up.
Yesterday I decided to give her another go in her beautiful new chair. This time we had great success. She absolutely loved sitting up and watching what was going on. Feeding her is a little more difficult as her head bobs all over the place in her attempt to stay balanced whilst taking in the surroundings from high up on her throne, but I am just so relieved that the chair is finally being put to good use, rather than collecting dust in the corner. Now it can collect dust and a range of weird and wonderful spills as Zoe spits, throws, drools, drops and smooshes her food all over it. Every baby needs a throne of their own to do that too.
The little princess, sitting high upon her throne certainly rules supreme in this house.

Now that Zoe is getting a bit older (9 months today actually) she likes to sit up in the bath, gripping onto the sides with what can only be described as a vice grip. This makes bath time a lot more fun for both girls as Malia takes every opportunity to touch Zoe, look at Zoe and make Zoe laugh. Talk about sisterly love. Needless to say, not a lot of washing gets done, however there is lots of splashing and plenty of giggles. I can only imagine what the two of them will get up to as Zoe gets even older. I just can't believe that in 3 short months she will be one. ONE!
Whilst Malia can love her sister a little too much sometimes, causing pain and occasionally tears with her constant cuddles and tickles, on the whole watching the two of them is so wonderful. Malia adores her sister and Zoe hangs on everything Malia does. I'm pretty sure I've said it before, but Zoe saves the best giggles for her big sister. This could be because Malia is the only one prepared to get down on her hands and knees screeching or run back and forth for half and hour straight, but it's still beautiful to think that she knows how to make Zoe laugh better than anyone else. Is it optimistic or simply naive of me to think the sweet relationship between them will last a lifetime?
After this bath I caught Malia in the bathroom huddled in her towel, crouched over the drain. I looked at her for a minute, trying to figure out what in the world she was doing and when I couldn't figure it out I said,
"Malia?"
She stood up and whipped her head around looking very guilty.
"What were you doing?" I asked.
She stood there for a little while, trying to figure out if what she was about to say was going to get her into trouble I think and eventually said,
" I was just seeing if there was a fish down there".
Oh that girl is just too cute! Have I mentioned how much I love my girls?
